Retreat to Darkmoor — now on Kickstarter!
Retreat to Darkmoor, the lastest Small Box / Big Fun game from Action Phase Games is up and Kickstarter...and it's already over 50% funded! AWE-SOOOOOME!!
This was another of APG's 2016 games that I had a chance to preview at last year's BGG.con, and it was easily my favorite (though I'm looking forward to editing—and then playing—all of the games they have on tap for this year). The whole concept of playing a retreating army ("Run away! Run awaaaaay!") is serious fun, and the competitive aspects feel more like you're flipping your opponents the bird, rather than making your day by ruining theirs. And after seeing the final art during my edit pass (the preview I played had placeholder images), this is one I can't wait to have on my shelf.
So as I say with all of Action Phase's games...wait are you waiting for? Go back it! NOW!! Your dark overlord commands it...
Check out the new cover for Gods of Chicago
Just got a sneak peak of the updated cover for Gods of Chicago by AJ Sikes. Ain't it a beaut? And the book's pretty dang good, too.

Happy Valentine's Day
To the future Mrs. WVS, whomever and wherever she may be...
Happy Valentine's Day, y'all!
Dreamwell is up on Kickstarter!
Dreamwell, the latest project from one of my game editing clients—Action Phase Games—has just launched on Kickstarter!
It's a really neat, family-friendly game that I had a chance to preview at the 2015 BGG.con in Dallas, TX. The play seems deceptively easy, but there's a lot of interesting strategy. And the art is creepy good!
So go back it already!!
New year, new(-ish) hometown
After twenty-something years in New York City, I've moved myself and the world headquarters of Working Vacation Studios back to the place I've always considered home: Portland, Oregon. (Well, Beaverton, actually...but let's not quibble.)
As my friends know, I've been wanting to come back to the Pacific Northwest for some time now. Of course I'm glad for the opportunities NYC provided me, and I wouldn't trade the friends I made there for anything, but it was time to come back home. The pace of life certainly suits me better, and who couldn't love this view from my office window:
So big thanks to my clients Vendome Press, Action Phase Games, and Yen Press for their patronage, which made this move possible, and for their ongoing support of Working Vacation Studios.
Here's to an awesome 2016 and beyond!
Secrets of the Conclave is now available on Amazon
Secrets of the Conclave, the first book by Beth Raymond, is now available in both print and Kindle editions at Amazon.
I could tell that it was going to be an engaging and well-written book from the sample chapter Beth sent me, and it definitely proved to be just that during my proofread. So I hope that you'll go check it out!
